WAMA AFRICA TEAM

Experienced team ensures an
atmosphere of well-being

WAMA’s vision is, first and foremost, about providing people with special needs an opportunity for rewarding employment and providing them the training needed to take on full time roles such as receptionists, hosts, spa therapists, waiters, kitchen assistants, stewards, room attendants and supervisors.

WAMA AFRICA CONCEPT & HISTORY

We have decided to create a humble but refined environment where our respected patrons can enjoy the finest quality food prepared with the utmost diligence

WAMA is a social enterprise boutique hotel, spa and restaurant that trains young adults living with special needs; be it deaf, mute, blind, physical impairments, certain mental health conditions, or those with albinism. Opened in July 2021, our unique training establishment includes two restaurants, one casual dining and the other fine dining, a conference room, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor garden function space, and an art gallery. We aim to launch our five guest rooms (one which will be accessible for those with limited mobility) and our spa and salon later in 2021.

WAMA’s vision is, first and foremost, about providing people with special needs an opportunity for rewarding employment and providing them the training needed to take on full time roles such as receptionists, hosts, spa therapists, waiters, kitchen assistants, stewards, room attendants and supervisors. Furthermore, as our training focuses on customer service, we prepare our training candidates to enter the corporate world in customer service rolls spanning many different industries.

It is our vision, combined with an extensive delicious menu focused on utilising fresh, healthy ingredients, which will build up the “WAMA” brand to be a leader in the hospitality sector and renowned for giving back to the community through our social enterprise model.

Whilst we offer both a relaxed snack menu as well as a signature menu with delicious cuisine, fine wines and great cocktails, our focus is on creating a beautiful and safe environment where we provide paid on-the-job training for people with all forms of special needs (with consultation with our health partners at Aga Khan Hospital) over a three month period, then find them job placements in leading hospitality and corporate establishments.

Our methodology is to immerse them into real-life employment scenarios within a safe and supportive working environment, all the while providing them with hands-on practical vocational (paid) training in skills that will lead to gainful employment.

WAMA has chosen to focus our training of people with special needs in a boutique hotel environment as hospitality is a global industry, which, even in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, is resilient to potential global and economic changes that impact other industries. External customers will also participate in the development of these essential employment and life-skills, which will ultimately lead to the trainees having an equal opportunity of sustainable employment, despite their disability. This in turn will lead our trainees to be able to have a more fulfilling life and be a valued, productive member of society.

Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, we adhere to, follow and exceed the recommendations and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health in Kenya, and the World Health Organisation to ensure our guests and staff are kept as safe as possible. We are committed to ensuring all staff members are fully vaccinated, and actively assist in this process, in line with the allowances provided by the Ministry of Health and the Tourism Regulatory Authority.

Thank you once again for taking the time to learn about WAMA Africa and we hope that you have the chance to visit us in person soon!
